Summer's End CTC Update
Well the summer has ended for the CTC rowers and plans are now underway for an even more successful 2010-11 Season. As we say goodbye to our first graduating class and applaud their efforts to helping CTC progress wildly during their involvement, we are equally excited about the potential of the upcoming CTC squad. Skill sets have improved, equipment is ready to be put to the test, and expectations for the upcoming races are high.
Practices have now been shut down for the remainder of August (The Executive Director has a wedding to attend to!), though impromptu football, soccer, and frisbee sessions are already being planned by the kids! We will return to practice after Labor Day with our focus solely on Head of the Rock (October 10th) and other racing opportunities.
This summer has allowed us to introduce the sport to an additional 15 new kids and we hope they will be joining our school year team once the fall season commences. These would be in addition to the over 25 heavily invested youths currently on the roster.
As we now spend time to develop a fully detailed calendar of events for participants, I wanted to let you know about upcoming events:
We are very excited to announce that Pastor William Gates of Living Faith Christian Community Church will be the featured speaker at this year's Gala. For those of you that don't know who he is or his significance to CTC, Pastor Gates is one of the two leads in the famed documentary Hoop Dreams. It was because of this movie that I was motivated to bring rowing to underserved youths. We are delighted that Pastor Gates supports our mission and is willing to spend an evening with us. We hope that you are able to attend and meet this inspirational man in person! If you would like to help sponsor the Gala please contact me asap - tables are available for purchase - Please contact Gala Chairs Mrs. Jennifer Butsch at jencu1999@gmail.com or Ms. Meghan Goulette at meghan.goulette@gmail.com!
Additionally, CTC has organized a pre-party for the Gala at the Bull & Bear restaurant in Chicago's River North Community. Please join us for a night on the town for $20. Attendance at this event will also allow you a reduced individual ticket for the November 12th Gala ($180 instead of the normal $200). Please show your support in this relaxed setting!
Media Support
As you know by now, CTC has been very lucky with media attention. Coverage has ramped up in the last few months with more broadcast segments and published articles recently added to the CTC library. Namely:
I hope you enjoy them all! For future reference, I upload all materials (when they are on-line) to the CTC Facebook Page. Please click below on the facebook link if you want to access everything there.
Funding Support
CTC is always researching new and interesting ways to bring in the funds necessary to operate a high level program. Now is the general publics turn to help the cause. We have entered a highly competitive award competition by the organization Beyond Sport. This UK based organization is a global leader in supporting sport for social change. If you believe in what CTC is doing it would be kindly appreciated if you were to leave a supporting comment with our application. To do so all you have to do it click HERE. Awards are given out at the end of September so time is short and CTC's fingers and toes are crossed in anticipation!
